Uber Entertainment has announced a substantial new beta build for Planetary Annihilation, which has been available on Steam Early Access since September. Last week, it also said that it's delaying the release of the game until "it's done."

KerbalEdu, a cooperative, school-friendly version of space exploration sim Kerbal Space Program, will officially launch next Wednesday, December 18. The new program was created and will be managed by TeacherGaming, which previously saw success with Minecraft variant MinecraftEdu. KerbalEdu already has a small number of schools working toward setting up a program, and over 2,000 schools are in TeacherGaming’s established network.
Brace yourself. Today, Valve announced that it's ready to start shipping out its first batch of Steam Machines and Steam Controllers to the lucky 300 users selected to participate in the beta. If all goes according to plan, the machines will ship out of the factory this Friday, Dec. 13.
Kerbal Space Program has announced the full schedule for Kerbal Kon, the birthday celebration for the in-development exploration game, which starts tomorrow. In addition to showing details for changes to the game’s science and career modes, developer Squad will also host streams from some of KSP’s most popular YouTube personalities and former NASA astronaut Ed Lu. The action will start tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. central time, and the .23 update will come down to players next week.

If there's one thing that World War 2 has taught us, it's that you should never fight a war on two fronts. Also that you should find your craziest haired citizens and put them to work doing science. But what about fighting a war on three fronts? That's just crazy enough to work, and Relic are certainly fighting a war of sorts: against the solid, but not stellar reception to Company of Heroes 2. Their three-pronged assault combines Steam Workshop support, a free multiplayer update, and new DLC for the Theatre of War mode.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to notice the titular connection between Project Eternity, and the old Infinity Engine that was the inspiration for Obsidian's nostalgic RPG. Embarrassing, at least, if it weren't for the fact that by pointing this out, I'll cause someone new to go "oh yeah," and feel a little bit dim. Once that feeling has passed, dismiss that old name. Wait, my mistake, this second free DLC pack may be called Magna Carta, but it's actually about planes, tanks and exploding objects. No, I don't really see the connection either. Either way, strategy fans will get access to new units and maps designed to expand the game's multiplayer and skirmishes.
The Novelist, an indie game from developer Kent Hudson, released today on Steam. As we described it when we first reported on the game's development, The Novelist is about troubled writer Dan Kaplan and his family, who travel to an isolated coastal residence where Dan hopes to get some work done. But we don't play as Dan. Players take on the role of a ghost in the house, and must stay hidden as they spy on and influence the family. You'll be able to see them go throughout their daily routines, read their thoughts, and even relive their memories, all from a first-person perspective.

Today Double Fine announced Hack 'n' Slash, a "hacking-themed puzzle action game" for Windows, Mac, and Linux, due in the first half of 2014. In the game, you'll play as a young elf who uses her computer hacking skills to cheat her way through a classic action adventure game. According to the announcement, the game's intention is to subvert old-school gaming tropes by allowing non-programmers to experience something akin to hacking.

A dogfighting multiplayer game focused on the aircraft of World War 2 and Korea never seemed like a natural fit for mouse and keyboard. World of Warplanes faced an almost insurmountable dilemma: if it was easy to control, it wouldn't feel like actual flying and dogfighting, and if it did feel authentic, then it would probably exclude most of its intended audience.
Dutch developer Ronimo Games announced on its Kickstarter page that Starstrom, the crowdfunded expansion to its 2D platformer Awesomenauts, will kick off later this week. Ronimo says it's putting the finishing touches on a new character, Ted McPain, and that if all goes well players should see be able to see him in the game this Thursday.
