In the Elite: Dangerous alpha, loitering in the docking bay is a killable offence

Docking at space stations is the spaceship equivalent of parallel parking, which is another way of saying that it fills me with terror, and I generally end up gouging my ship a little as a result. Despite that, I much prefer the ludicrous tension and precision of manual docking - a tension that appears to be alive and well in Elite: Dangerous. Alpha 3.0 has just been released to backers, accompanied by a fancy docking tutorial video in which a classy robot lady tells you how to insert your spaceship. It's a surprisingly elegant process, at least when I'm not behind the space-wheel. See it for yourself after the break.

Age of Wonders III's Theocrat class revealed in new footage

Theocrat is a word which here means "Dude who is in with God". It's also a word that means "Dude with healing powers, who can 'cleanse the land of supernatural beings'", which I'm pretty sure was a superpower left out of my school's edition of the King James bible. The Theocrat, you see, is one of Age of Wonders III's new leader classes, a deceptively benevolent-seeming chieftain who is nonetheless a bit of a warmongering zealot (providing you choose to play them this way, of course). Triumph Studios have shown off how the Theocrat operates in a new nineteen-minute video, which you can see below.


SimCity offline mode is "almost there Mayors"

The impossible will soon come to pass: SimCity's offline mode is "almost there Mayors" and will arrive as part of Update 10, which is now in "final testing", according to the offical SimCity twitter account. The long, arduous journey of SimCity's offline mode (it's like The Hobbit but with DRM) will soon be over. With Blizzard finally ditching Diablo 3's stupid real-world auction house on March 18th, this is shaping up to be a particularly good week.

Valve reveals redesigned Steam controller with analog button arrays

Valve has been deliberately iterating on the Steam controller for months, trying to find that perfect balance between gamepad simplicity and keyboard-and-mouse precision. At Steam Dev Days in January, Valve announced the biggest change to the controller since we first laid eyes on it: the centered touchpad was gone, replaced by two diamond-pattern four-button layouts. According to my spooky vision - and to the Wadjet Eye blog, which I was coincidentally reading at the time - the final game of the Blackwell adventure series will be released on April 24th. Thanks to the Cyberpunk Game Jam, we're drowning in a sea of digital dystopias. Naturally, Satellite Reign, the spiritual successor to Syndicate, is taking a little longer than a week to create. It was mid-last year when the Kickstarter successfully raised £460,000, and the first few "in-engine visualisations" tantalised would-be cyberwarriors. Now, in a new transmission, the team are sharing some pre-alpha footage of the game as it exists today.
