Terraria offers new treats, no tricks, in Halloween update

Perry Vandell at

People prepare for the night of ghosts and goblins in different ways. Some go trick-or-treating, while others get so drunk they start believing they are their costume. Only a select few lock themselves away to craft free Halloween updates for their games, and it turns out Terraria’s developers happen belong in the latter group.

Halloween has a survival horror fangame, and it's bloody, brilliant

Tom Sykes at

As a big fan of eighties slashers and survival horrors, I have a weird feeling that indie horror game Halloween was made specifically for me, perhaps after some sort of psychic interference by developers Pig Farmer Games. As the name suggests, it's pretty much Halloween The Game, and if any of John Carpenter's lawyers are watching: look at that shiny distraction over there. As for the rest of us: you're going to want to play this, particularly if (like me) you're a video nasty or a Resident Evil fan.

Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut gets Steam release on October 31

Deadly Premonition: Director’s Cut, or the update to what I like to call “Twin Peaks: The Video Game,” is bringing its coffee fortunes, raincoat killers, and other survival horror nonsense to your PC this Halloween.

Guild Wars 2 Halloween update video: Chris and Tom try on costumes, throw things at kids

Chris Thursten at

Guild Wars 2's 'Shadow of the Mad King' update launches tonight, adding Halloween-themed decorations, mini-games and events throughout the human kingdom of Kryta. In this video, Tom S and I take a quick look at the redesigned Lion's Arch and Mists areas, some spooky costumes, and a few of the new items. We also throw heavy vegetables at children, which is neither appropriate nor advisable.

Valve seeks spooky submissions for Scream Fortress 2 Halloween event

Omri Petitte at

Halloween is one of the few events I forgive for being teased obnoxiously early by halfhearted grocery store decorations and late-night Elvira beer commercials. Similarly, you've probably noticed Team Fortress 2's Steam Workshop page populating with Halloween-themed items already. Valve extended an official call-out yesterday for entries and ratings to the shambling Scream Fortress 2 update.

Halloween descends upon your favorite MMOs: spooky stuff you can play this weekend

Nathan Grayson at

Halloween is a time for many things. Candy, costumes, vandalism, paganism - you know, wholesome stuff. But Halloween also has its darker side. That's right: MMORPGs - perhaps the most evil, life-devouring game genre in existence. So clearly, it only makes sense that all of them would... OK, I'm done trying to make sense of this.

For some reason, MMOs take to Halloween like machete-wielding psychopaths to teenagers on camping trips. Why? Who knows? But it's stupidly fun, and you get to punch zombies in a videogame. That, like, almost never happens. Find out what the likes of WoW, Rift, World of Tanks, DC Universe, and many more are up to this Halloween after the break.
