Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection

Call of Duty DLC on sale for charity

Tom Hatfield at

Hey, remember how we always say Call of Duty DLC is overpriced? Well Activision have just launched an great big sale, offering 50% any Black Ops or Modern Warfare 3 Map Pack for the next week. That takes the price down from an exorbitant £11.49/$14.99 to a much more reasonable £5.74/$7.49.

There's something else to, a portion all all sales will go to The Call of Duty Endowment, a charity launched by Activision back in 2009 that helps veterans find jobs when their tours of duty are over.

Black Ops 2 dedicated servers confirmed for PC

Treyarch director of technology Cesar Stastny has confirmed on Twitter that the latest Call of Duty will feature dedicated ranked multiplayer servers on PC.

Confirmed: Ranked Dedicated Servers for #BlackOps2

— pcdev (@pcdev) June 16, 2012
It's good news, and more than a little overdue. Dedicated servers made a return with Modern Warfare 3, but were unranked and therefore didn't contribute to your overall progress. It seems like reliable, full-featured servers have crawled back bit by bit since they originally vanished from the series.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection review

Tom Senior at

I remember storming the beaches of Normandy five years ago in one of CoD 2’s most tense and memorable levels. Yesterday in Black Ops I shot a zombie on the moon with a gun that made it vomit blood then explode. What the hell has happened to Call of Duty?

Whatever our memories of the shooter series, the zombie survival mode introduced by Treyarch in World at War has frequently been the best part of the regular Call of Duty: Black Ops packs. It follows, then, that a DLC pack made up of five zombie levels should be the best. It is, but not by much.

Editorial: Call of Duty fans deserve better than Rezurrection

Tom Senior at

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection came out on Friday. The pack adds five new arenas to Call of Duty: Black Ops' zombie survival mode, except four of them aren't new at all. Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese are all "remastered" versions of zombie maps from Call of Duty: World at War, released in 2008.

That means 80% of the map pack is made up of recycled, three year old content. What's more, those who bought the Hardened and Prestige editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops received the new maps as part of the deal last year. The asking price? £11.50 / $14.99. This has to stop.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection trailer goes gross, double XP weekend kicks off on Friday

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection is out this Thursday, bringing us the mad new zombie map, Moon, and four other remastered zombie survival missions from Call of Duty: World at War. Yes, it's yet another Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack, but this may well be the best of the bunch. The zombie maps have consistently been the best part of the rest of the DLC, with brand new enemies and some memorable weapons. The Moon map will have its own selection of mad weaponry, including moon grenades. See them action in the truly disgusting new Rezurrection trailer above. Everyone will earn double XP this weekend in Black Ops to celebrate the last bit of CoD DLC before Modern Warfare 3 arrives. But will it be worth $14.99 / £11:49? Hmmm.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection will put zombies on the moon on PC next week

I've put up this trailer again, because words alone can barely describe the madness of the Moon map in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection map pack, otherwise known as CODBLOR. It's been out for three weeks already on the Xbox, but Joystiq note that it will finally make it to our machines next week, on Thursday September 22.

As well as the Moon map, Rezurrection contains four other zombie survival arenas ported over from World at War. It will cost (gasp) $14.99 / £11:49. At least you're paying for the zombies mode. Who would have thought the most entertaining bit of a Call of Duty game would be a zombie mode? I remember riding across the desert to storm the gun batteries of El Alamein way back in Call of Duty 2. Those were the days...

To celebrate the release of the new map pack, there will also be a double XP weekend following Rezurrection's release. Woot!

Black Ops map pack sales hit 18 million

Tom Hatfield at

Activision Blizzard have sold 18 million Call of Duty: Black Ops map packs report Gamasutra. The numbers, along the fact that Black Ops has sold 23 million copies were revealed during an 'Analyst day' conference call. The figures far exceed those of Modern Warfare 2 (11 million map packs, 19 million games sold) and World at War (9 million map packs, 9 million game sales).

These results mean that, between DLC and the initial cost of the game, the average player has spent $76 on Black Ops. In our Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike review we felt that Black Ops map packs were too expensive, what do you think?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection trailer sort of explains space-zombie outbreak

They took zombies into space, they put zombies on leashes, they blasted them with experimental weapons, but putting a zombie on a treadmill was one step too far. The new moonbase map that comes as part of the new Black Ops Rezurrection pack looks like it could be the most interesting of the lot. The reduced gravity means dead zombies drift comically into the sky when dispatched, and the whole space suits + machine guns combo is a good one. Reminds me of the underplayed space shooter, Shattered Horizon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection screenshots put zombies in space

Tom Senior at

When we said the next Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack would feature a new zombie level set on the moon, it wasn't out of some Jelly Baby fuelled sugar rush. It's real. Activision have released four new screenshots to prove it. They show plenty of the dessicated moonbase around which the map is set, and are infested with space zombies, naturally.

Black Ops Re-zombie-urrection is due out on Xbox machines on August 23. Activision haven't dished out a PC release date yet, but based on the form of previous map packs, it'll arrive several weeks later on PC. You'll find the new screens of Moon below, along with two shots of one of the four re-worked Call of Duty: World at War zombie levels included in the map pack.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection map pack will put zombies on the moon

The latest Call of Duty map pack is set to hasten Black Ops' descent into zombie madness. It's called Rezurrection. It will feature five zombie maps. Four of them will be the reworked versions of Call of Duty: World at War's zombie levels that came bundled with Hardened and Prestige editions of Black Ops. The other one is brand new, and will be SET ON THE MOON.
