Where are all the assholes? I’ve been in Seattle for a few hours now, a few blocks from the convention center where PAX will be tomorrow, and I haven’t seen a single violent shouting match about feminism or indie games or Call of Duty or which kind of cloud is the dumbest (I say cirrus). I thought this was a convention for gamers.

Looks like Saints Row studio Volition will announce a new game at PAX Prime. According to an event description on the PAX site, new gameplay, art and details “for an upcoming project from Volition” will be shown during a panel on Friday.

Valve is being sued by an Australian consumer watchdog

Valve is being taken to court by The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The ACCC is alleging that Valve has not fulfilled mandatory consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. While neither Valve or Steam has any physical presence in Australia, the company must observe Australian law when it provides goods or services to Australians.

Why you should use Darkadia to show off your game collection

Steam makes it easy to collect games, but as a tool for maintaining a collection it suffers from a few shortcomings. It's not much use for cataloging Infocom classics, say, or that Splinter Cell special edition that came in a metal lunchbox, and some die-hard collectors—people who'll pass on a game because the packaging is just a little too banged up—may not consider "owning" a game on Steam the same as having it parked in a place of pride on a shelf.

CCP Games closes San Francisco office, loses two key executives

EVE Online studio CCP Games has announced the closure of its San Francisco office as part of an effort to "merge and streamline" its operations following the decision to cancel the development of the World of Darkness MMO. Perhaps more significantly, it has also lost the services of its chief financial officer and chief marketing officer.

It'll probably be tomorrow. If it is, we'll finally begin the process of accepting Techies into the game. Techies, the argument goes, are going to change how pub Dota is played forever. All Pick is going to become a (literal) minefield. The old ways will be gone. It seems appropriate that a hero with a reputation for griefing should attract a seven-stage process of its own.

More news about Dragon Age: Inquisition's recently announced co-op multiplayer, and, once again, it comes in direct response to Mass Effect 3's similar mode. Previously, we learned that DA:I won't tie single-player progress to multiplayer performance—a source of relief to any anti-social player still having nightmares about their 'War Score'. Now, it seems, Bioware has plans to support this mode long past the point at which they abandoned space warfare.

The latest Tropes vs Women in Video Games video continues the analysis of the objectification of non-playable female characters—this time with an eye to exposing common traits of violence against sexualised NPCs. Depressingly, its release prompted a torrent of misogynistic abuse made against creator Anita Sarkeesian, her family and her supporters. In their attempts to prove that sexism in video gaming isn't a problem, Sarkeesian's harassers posted threats that compelled her to alert authorities and leave her home to stay with friends.

Invisible, Inc. proves that the logic of stealth games fits turn-based strategy conventions very well, even if it's a little too difficult to fully enjoy right now. Its most obvious influence is X-COM, as it put me in charge of a group of spies with 72 hours to prepare for a final mission. In the time I have until then, I choose between procedurally-generated missions from a global map, weighing the time they'll take to complete and level of security against the potential rewards, and deploy my agents.
