The best Steam Summer Sale deals: Day 8

PC Gamer at

The Steam Summer Sale is always dangerous, threatening to take money from your wallet and hundreds of hour of your life away with tantalizing games. But today's best deals feel especially life-threatening, because there are some masterful strategy games on sale. Civilization 5, Rome 2: Total War, and Europa Universalis IV are all heavily discounted, and any one of these games could keep you occupied for months of economic planning, political trickery or open warfare. The deal of the day, though, is Dishonored, a top contender for 2012 game of the year.

There are always nominees that mean a lot to just one or two judges. In past years these might have been included as runners up, but this year we wanted to recognise them in a more substantial way. Look at the expression of the man in that picture. Can't make it out? Here's a clearer version. Can't make that out? Don't worry, we can zoom and enhance. That's the expression of a man who's learned that new story DLC will be out for Assassin's Creed IV: Go Go Power Pirates! next week, but who has still barely scratched the surface of the game. As somebody who's only a few hours into it myself, I can sympathise. Maybe you can too?

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag stealth video sneaks into view

ost of my attempts at stealth in previous Assassin's Creed games look like something you'd see in an episode of The Three Stooges. Sure, I'll mingle with a bustling crowd to pass a few guards, but something will always go awry, and I'll be left with a pile of bodies lying at my feet. But the latest gameplay video for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is doing its best to show how the overt can become more covert.

We've seen video after video highlighting how much Black Flag has improved from its predecessor, to the point where we've sort of forgotten Black Flag has multiplayer. Luckily, we have some brand new screenshots to remind us of that fact.
