Well, I won't be getting Crysis 2 then either. I didn't play Demigod because I didn't want to use Impulse. Steam is my platform of choice and that's how it will stay. I don't want to give up Battlefield 3, but I don't want EA's fked up POS either.

Here's a fact that some of you may not have known, Amazon sometimes has better deals than Steam.

I would definitely be willing to give EA's service a shot if they have good deals.

Honestly, having all your stuff in the same spot/program/service isn't that big of a deal. Say Steam sold Crysis 2 for 49.99 and EA sold it at 39.99 guess where I would buy it?

Edit: just looking at prices makes me not like Origin.

2 weeks after Dragon Age 2 came out I bought it on Amazon for $39.99. Months after the fact EA is selling it at . . . . $59.99, $20 more expensive.

Meh, I don't care. I have Crysis 2 on Origin anyway.

I'm just waiting for a Raptr type client to come out so I can use both Steam and Origin on the same thing.

I bought Crysis 2 on Impulse for 28.99 (weekend sale)... and I can't play multiplayer because I get disconnected within minutes from servers... apparently, the new patch screwed a few things...

Unless I am dying to try a EA game, I will not buy from Origin; and there are virtually no EA games that I'm dying to play.

As long as steam remains a "for profit" branch of Valve, who is a direct competitor to EA this shit is gonna happen. Anyone big enough to build their own digital distro platform can save huge amounts of money by cutting retailers(steam) out of their piece of the gaming pie. Personally I'm surprised they would cut out steam completely since it has such a massive audience but I guess someone decided that less sales in exchange for more profit per sale(and the bonus of getting Origin installed on peoples PC) was worth the risk. We will probably see more and more of this kind of thing.

In a completely fictitious/impossible/perfect world Steam should be an unaffiliated non-profit organization created to help PC developers get their games into your grubby little mitts for less.

I'm bloody not. Have you seen the prices (overall) in Origin?
Quick example - Battlefield 3 Limited Edition Preorder:
    Play.com: £29.99
    Game.co.uk: £29.99
    GamersGate: £34.95

    Origin/EA Store: £39.99
    ---
    Another example: Crysis 2:
    Play.com: £26.99
    Game.co.uk: £22.99
    GamersGate: £27.95

    Origin/EA Store: £34.99
    ---

So why would I want to use Origin? They're a lot more expensive than any other store and on top of that, they don't have the excuse that the money goes to the retailer.
I'm all for paying big bucks for games but this is just ridiculous.

Oh God, I was right. Those assholes are really trying to pull it off.

And C2 is now 60$ on Origins. Incredible.
