    Default Halfass Bulletin

Just a short note for the other raid team leaders: this week Halfass Wyrmbreaker has with him:

Nether Scion - 100% increased attack speed on Halfus (dispelled when released)
Storm Rider - Shadow Nova on Halfus (interruptable once released)
Whelps - Flame breath on Behemoth (lowers AoE damage once released)

We released Storm Rider and Nether Scion first to reduce tank damage and make nova interruptable. Once they're dead, we killed the whelps and then Halfus.

Drake Difficulty Verdict: Medium 6/10 - no Slate Dragon or Time Warden to upset the healers, but Storm Rider necessitates an interrupter on the boss, reducing drake DPS.

    Default Halfass Bulletin W/C 19/01/2011

This week Halfass Wyrmbreaker has with him:

Nether Scion - 100% increased attack speed on Halfus (dispelled when released)
Slate Dragon - Mortal Strike-style healing debuff on the Halfus tank (regularly stuns boss when relseased)
Whelps - Flame breath on Behemoth (lowers AoE damage once released)

We released Storm Rider and Slate Dragon, and had Klog tank those while Uru tanked the boss. Blew BL and all CDs and nuked Nether Scion (Slate Dragon has a lot more HP). Once Uru had 15 stacks of debuff, we used a Hand of Protection and a cancelaura macro to reset him. Once he was up to 10 again, had him and Klog switch roles (Nether Scion was dead by this time, Slate was on 50%).

Tanks used CDs liberally throughout P1 to avoid being spanked.

Once those were dead, released the whelps and tanked them on top of Halfus whilst everyone AoE'd them down. Then it's into p2 which is easymode.

Drake Difficulty Verdict: Medium-hard 7/10 - no Time Warden with his fireballs of doom, but Nether+Slate=big tank damage at the start. Spam heals and chain cooldowns to get you through the first 45 secs, which are the only hard part. I'd seriously advise against choosing not to release either Nether or Slate at the start, because the damage increase from the boss would be too much to cope with for any prolonged period.

The boss' damage, along with his ability to apply the MS effect, is greatly reduced with the activation of the Nether Scion. It's relatively easy to ignore the slate drake until the nether scion is dead and significantly reduce the damage to both tanks and make the use of cooldowns less compulsory.

I'd recommend taking Nether Scion and Whelps in the above situation, having one tank take whelps and boss, and the other take the Nether Scion. Taunting at 5-6 stacks is far more optimal that letting it get as insanely high as 10, which is unnecessarily stressful on healers. Drake tank takes boss, boss tank takes drake.

This will free up your third raid healer to offheal tanks as the flame breath is reduced to pathetic 2.2k ticks.

Nuke down Nether scion while using passive aoe on the whelps, nothing heavy, they die pretty quickly (one hunter spamming multi-shot / explosive trap should be able to bring the whelps down in a similar time to the other 4 hard nuking the Scion)

Once both are dead release slate drake and off-tank him the rest of the fight - a holy paladin can bubble first furious roar, and BoP another healer on the second (if you have a ret / prot paladin they can bop the third healer making it even easier), with tanks using cooldowns to survive the third (and /or fourth). There is absolutely no need to kill the slate drake. Ever

What if you have no paladin?

That combo would be pretty much unkillable unless your tanks have insane amounts of avoidance if you can't HoP.
The aoe stun the boss does can be handled with tank cooldowns, but with no paladin a hasted healing debuff will simply stack too fast on your tanks. You won't even see his aoe stun.
Heroic mode will almost certainly be unkillable without a paladin.

Seeing as killing the slate dragon makes the final phase easier (only one boss damaging your tanks whilst you're stunned) and we had aaaages left on the enrage timer, there's no harm in killing the Slate dragon. I appreciate the timer is more difficult on heroic, but this thread isn't about heroic at all.

I wasn't on about heroic - killed it that way on normal mode last night with 8 alts 2 pugs, all in pretty naff gear

@ Akee, no paladin - go buy some free action potions

@ Darieth - fine, kill the slate drake, but don't release them both at the same time it's significantly more tank damage
