    Default Question about PCI-express X1 and PCI-express X16

I'm going to buy a sound card tonight. It has a PCI-express X1 interface, which I plan to use in a PCI-express 2.0 x16 slot.

This PCI-express 2.0 X16 slot only runs at 4x mode. Will this bottleneck the card at all?

    Shouldnt.

[H]ardOCP did a test a while back comparing PCIE x16, x8 and x4. The x4 was only slightly slower than x8 and x8 wasnt slower than x16 at all! And this was with GTX480's in SLI I believe. So if that wont bottleneck that much GPU power I dont see how it would bottleneck a sound card.

Okay, I have another question. I read that some motherboards only support video cards in PCI-e slots, and that sound cards and TV tuners do not work in them. I have an ASRock M3A770DE. Is there any truth to this? Is it possible that this card will be incompatible with my motherboard, even though it'll fit in a PCI-e 2.0 x16 slot?

I was about to say doesn't you're motherboard have a PCI Express X1 slot, then i google your board, that's a horribly designed heatsink, or just a poorly located PCI express slot.

I say it should work, and if it doesn't work then return it I guess, which sound card you planning on getting?

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Professional. It's on sale on Newegg right now so I dove in.

Installed yesterday, works fine. PC has been running a bit sluggish since then for some reason.
