    Default 2560 X 1440 question

I currently game at 1920 x 1080p on my rig using an AOC i2353Fh IPS 23 inch monitor. My rigs specs are :

    Intel Core i5 3570K Processor
    Asus P8Z77-V Pro Motherboard
    16GB Corsair PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048MB Graphics Card

I want to upgrade to a Dell 27" LED Monitor U2713HM in order to game at the higher resolution of 2560 x 1440, what id like to know is would my frame rate reduce significantly playing at 1920 x 1080p on a 27" monitor over my current 23" one?

Im currently playing Wolfenstein : The New Order at maximum settings at 1920 x 1080p & the framerate is good & the game plays smoothly. Were I to play this on a 27" monitor at 1920 x 1080p would I see a noticably reduced framerate given the increase in screen size? Obvioulsly at higher resolutions I expect this, however Im unsure whether an increased screen would impact on my graphics card at the same settings. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

the size of the screen doesn't make a difference a 60 inch 1080p screen will only need to same power as a 20 inch 1080p screen.

but buying a larger monitor with a higher screen res is a total waste if you are only going to run at 1080 as the image will look distorted to an extent without running at the native screen res (maximum screen res) but running at the higher screen res will use a hell of a lot more system power, so I wouldn't bother with a 1440p unless you are sure you ahve the graphics cards to back it up.

I intend running games at the 2560 x 1440 resolution so is my current card adequate to run the latest games like Watch Dogs / Wolfenstein : The New Order at the highest settings, or is a more capable card & / or running another Nvidia GTX 680 in SLI mode the answer?

the 680 may be struggling you will most likely be looking at going up to something like a 4gig GTX780 TI to get a reasonable frame rate with all the eye candy and even then you could be looking at needing 2 cards in the newer more demanding games.

A GTX680 is still a beast of a card and will handle most anything at 2560x1440 at max settings. Crysis 3 and one or two of the most demanding games out there might be a little too much for max settings though at that resolution.

If you can swing it, a R9 290, R9 290x or GTX780 would be a worthwhile upgrade if youre going to that resolution. Youll be fine with our current rig and still get great performance in most all games out there but if youre wanting to max everything and get all the eye candy you can, then youre gonna need to shell out some more bones for a GPU upgrade.
