Unhappy Ping Spikes, Help.

So, I've gotten back into the groove gaming since I'm on exam break, but have been having major problems playing online.

Although I noticed it before, It wasn't much of a problem I wasn't playing online that much and I was just playing with a friend (mainly TF2 and L4D2). But now since I'm playing more it has become much of an annoyance. The two games I am playing the most at this time is Garry's Mod(Trouble in Terrorist Town to be exact) L4D2 and League of Legends. In GMod, I've experienced times where the game would stutter and "teleport" me around (I hope you know what I mean) and return back to normal. In LoL, I can have a stable ping at 92ms, but it would suddenly spike up to a horrifying 2000ms, this happens occasionally and eventually returns back to around 92ms. Predictably, in L4D2 my hits don't connect or my shots are delayed so they miss and easily die by the enemy team.

So far I've tried using nameBench to find the best DNS server, but according to it I'm already connect to the best server for my location. Another method was to use TCPOptimizer setting the connection speed to the results I get from Speedtest.net. The final method I tried was following this video to edit the registry and only the registries specified in the video. But nothing seems to have fixed the spikes of high ping.

I have not found any other methods to all to aleviate this (even on this forum) nor do I know the source of the problem. I hope that any of you can help my problem.

    Best Regards,

Thank you for the quick response, I am directly connected to my modem via Cat-5 and Ethernet port.
