I went down to an Athlon II X4 but was able to fit a 7870 XT for video card which will make for a lot better performing rig than a 965 and 650Ti. I upped the motherboard to a slightly better one so he can always drop in a 965 later on down the road if he wants to with no problem.
I dropped the hard drive down to 500GB and the RAM down to 4GB to free up some cash because I think the 7870 XT is definitely worth it. Like the CPU, he can always add an extra hard drive or more RAM down the road if he needs to.
