Lightbulb Best driving simulator?

So, I got an idea today, and wanted to see what everyone thinks. I thought of how you could make a realistic driving simulator setup. Without spending a completely insane amount of money.

So, first, the actual PC. You'll want a fairly beefy gaming PC to handle the game I have in mind at smooth framerates, but this thread is about a rig, not a PC. But you will want 3D-enabled cards if you want more realism, but this is obviously more expensive.

Next, the monitors. Big TVs provide a lot of great visuals, but I'll stick to monitors. 1080p may be a big too small for 27 inches, but Eyefinity should look great with those.

Also, the steering wheel. Really up to you, I don't actually have one, but I would buy the G27 from Logitech.

And the rig. Any obutto cockpit should do fine. You'll want the triple monitor mount, though.

So, for the game, Test Drive Unlimited 2. You can drive pretty much anywhere over two huge islands. Use the cockpit view, and ta-da! Realism.

Some extra ideas: AmBX lights (the new ones), surround sound, and 3D monitors(plus a 3D card) would all be excellent for realism.

Disclosure: I have never tried anything like this rig. This rig is based on theory, not on fact. Try at your own risk.

I'd swap the three monitors for one nice big one with TrackIR or Freetrack and drive an actual simulation, not that. Maybe PCars once head tracking is implemented.

Yeah, that's probably a better idea.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 and realism? That game is about as realistic as Mario Kart 64.

TDU is about as realistic as starcraft.

as for the steering wheel thrustmaster T500 RS if you have the cash to throw at it, it was designed from the ground up to be as close to a car as possible.

I meant perspective-based realism and controlling with a wheel while sitting in a car seat. Also, as for the T500, it wiggles a ton apparently with the oZone.

thats because like the wheel in a car it turns a hell of a lot further than your standard racing wheel, if you get in a car and drive on the straight you can get quite a bit of wiggle on the wheel before it really affects your driving.

but then if you just wanted arcade instead of realism you should've just said that.
