    Default Good RTS'?

While I've heard good things about all the x4 games out there, I'd prefer something similar to Halo Wars (for the ten of you who bought it).
Fast paced, with large amounts of troops in short amounts of times.
Any good space games (Akin to Star Trek Online, or something of the sort) are welcome as well.

While i have not played it, It has been recommended to me by some people that i know are big RTS, and 4x fans... Sin's of the solar empire, Rebellion, I hear it is worth playing..

But for turn based fun, Galactic Civ II is pretty great.. You can create ships, and build giant fleets and have giant galactic wars..

A game called Endless space has also been on my radar for a long time.. almost bought it today on sale, but passed for now... It looked more RTS, but it might be a 4x game. I only watched a video.. I have heard good things about it, but again never played.. sorry could not be more help.

You could always watch a let's play of the 3, and see if any are something you might be interested in.

if you liked halo wars look at the late C&C games as they started to move to that simplified direction.

There is always Supreme Commander series. Although I'd play Company of Heroes or Men of War instead.

Sins of a Solar Empire. I got the full version on Amazon about a year ago for £1.99, so it's probably even cheaper now. It's a really good game. You have 3 resources - Credits (which are farmed by colonizing planets) and metal and crystal, which are mined from asteroids (build a processor on the asteroid, they automatically extract metal and crystal). These 3 resources are used to build more structures (refineries which increase the output of your asteroid mines, trade hubs which link your solar systems together and generate credits through trade, propaganda stations which broadcast your culture to nearby systems and so on and so on), you use them to build new ships for combat and to research new technology.

It's basically Age of Empires in space and you really can't go wrong with it.

How about Starcraft 2? space based, fast paced, loads of units in quick time. Best game of all time imo and the only RTS worth buying these days.

This a million times. The game is really awesome and needs more spotlight. I bought it like a year ago and really enjoyed it, it's a good RTS game.

Also Warhammer 40k Dawn of War ? Can't go wrong with shooting down aliens, mutants and heretics - It's one of my favourite franchises gaming-wise
