Angry The over (mis)use of the Spam function on article comments

This is a plead to PCG:

Please will you ditch the Spam function from the comments section for articles. I can understand why it's there, but it's being misused to the nth degree and many people find it very frustrating.

A better option is a vote up/down for sub-comments as well as the main comment post.

    Any one else agree?

I agree it's being misused. I've tried saying that on the comments before. Does it lead to comment deletion or something? Because if it just means there's a number next to spam then I don't mind ignoring it. If it leads to comment deletion automatically, then I agree get rid of it.

eventually it will hide the comment so no one can see it, you often see it on things that people have a strong opposition to, for example most of the WoW posts if anyone tries to say anything positive in the comments loads of people flag it as spam until it is hidden so the hate stays but anything positive is lost.

if anything they need a system like the forums where you basically report the post then if people tried to report valid posts they would hopeful get some punishment for trying to abuse the system.either that or just add a not spam button so people can balance it back out.

Have you seen the "GoG supporting W8" post? Every single comment has been flagged at least once. Seriously WTF? Just get rid of it. Get rid of the rate up/down while you are at it, this isn't youtube.

Cheers for the feedback chaps. I would like to know why someone voted No though.

What do you do when actual spam is on the article?

Maybe just a reporting in a sticky thread here. Personally I haven't seen any spam in the comments for a while. Haven't had the urge to go buy some running shoes from Russia either for a while.

I enjoy the spam button wars on controversial articles too much to want to see it ditched. It's funny watching all the comments disappear.

A report button wouldn't work since there's only like one moderator and he's already overworked.
