Arcane focus only applies to arcane spells
you need http://www.wowhead.com/spell=29440 - Precision. Which is in the second tier of the frost tree

If you were using arcane focus that would explain you missing, as it doesn't affect your fire spells

Cheers! All is clear now. Looks like I will need 2 +12 hit gems to get me to the cap without raid buffs.

Hehe - if you have not been using Omen (or some other threat meter) then you will never know how many times your aggro has been close to pulling. Believe me - I have noticed
I have lost count of the number of times I have had to slack off on dps in Arcane. Granted this is only at the start of a fight - but still need to be careful.

Good discussion and makes me consider returning to the proper mage domain of fire

It's because Bimble doesn't run with anyone but the best tanks out there.
For those of us mortals who still do daily randoms the fact of putting out dps that equals everyone else (and yes I'm looking at you Hakkar) is a regular occurrence. Even with watching Omen like a hawk I still find I'm reaching for the Ice Block button more than is healthy

You mages don't know you're born
I did a weekly raid quest pug to lord Jaraxxus this evening

There was a mage top of the damage meters putting out 12k dps. He didn't pull aggro for the entire fight. I had to stop and wand halfway through because I was about to pull aggro, having already used my threat drop cooldown, while only doing 8k

Soulshatter is ****

Oh and another thing. If you want a temporary buff for the hit rating try using a food like Worg Tartare.

This will give a buff of +40 Hit Rating for an hour.

(sorry about the duff link to WoWWiki but couldn't connect to Wowhead)

Thanks for the help. I'll go with 2 x Veiled Ametrine which means I only lose 20 Haste.

I seem to have found myself with shed loads of hit on my current gear (491 atm, so 1.7% over hit cap grrr...) so was thinking of trying out fire again. When I first hit 80 I was FFB spec and did respec briefly to Fire/TtW when that first became viable - only I didn't have the hit rating to make it work so went back to FFB before finally bowing to the inevitable and going arcane.

I agree that a mage isn't a real mage until you start throwing huge balls of fire around, I leveled all the way as fire spec (save for a brief daliance with Frost which I really didn't get on with) and it just feels like a nice comfy pair of slippers to me

Keep us updated Bimble on how it goes and what your dps is like.

For once I will agree with you Cata - don't get used to it
Warlock aggro reduction is pitiful. One of the reasons I have not really used my lock

I take it you have no tier 10 gear ?
I was awash in hit for quite some time. Unfortunately, the top end gear is not good at giving hit.
I am even having to gem for hit in Arcane now
