Lightbulb Burn baby burn...

I'm am re-spec'ing to Fire, Arcane is sooo yesturday. Anyone have any tips?

I believe the rotation is: Living Bomb, Scorch, Fire Ball, Pyro (on proc). Then keep LB and Scorch up while chucking Fire Balls and Pyros.

    Woo!
I hear Fire beats arcane when you get ridiculous ICC gear (which you have)

Does scorch have any benefit aside from applying the 5% crit debuff? As in does it buff the mage in any way other than that due to talents / glyphs?

Only Affliction and demo locks provide the 5% crit debuff at less of a personal dps loss than for a mage to keep scorch up instead of using another fireball / pyroblast

Make sure living bomb ticks off before you re-apply it. Even if it means a second or so with no LB on while casting a fireball.

Mostly it's about remembering to keep scorch and LB up, you don't even have to do scorch if your warlock is bringing the 5% crit as you get nothing out of it other than that 5% crit.

Check some Lich King logs and you'll see mana fire mages not using a single scorch, with all their damage coming from LB, fireball and pyro (with about 3 fireblasts while moving)

Past that use hot streak procs.

Mana lasts MUCH longer than arcane, some fights you will get by with mana gems alone.

The only real downside is that you won't have as much burst as arcane as you only have a couple of cooldowns and a maginally longer ramp up time which is based on RNG.

Living Bomb can be cast on the move, so very useful for situational fights, and if you take the Glyph the DOT ticks can crit. It can also set off Hot Streak if the ignite crits, giving an instant Pyroblast. Oh, and it can be used on multiple targets at the same time since patch 3.2. The damage you can do with them all going off one after the other is immense if you time them right and the RNG gods are kind. Don't forget when using LB to let it ignite first before you reapply it. Addons such as Mage Nuggets will give you a warning before it goes off, or you can use Power Auras to set up one yourself
There are two things to watch for if speccing fire:

Be careful to watch your aggro. With such a lot of burst damage the aggro can creep up on you and you suddenly find every mob chasing you instead of the tank. Klog had to save me more than once when Pryderi had a fire spec
Fire spec is more dependent on the RNG than any other, so one day you'll be top of the DPS by a long way, the next at the bottom
I have a macro for the times that I used to take aggro:
"/s Noooo!!! Take the Healer instead!!
    /cast Ice Block"

From what I have read Fire will be the best spec for raiding come Cataclysm. Its so much more fun than Arcane, the spell effects are awesome, and a mage isn't a proper mage unless he can throw out huge fiery balls of death.

Klog thanks for the spec, in fact I took mine from a Mage in all 277 gear so I suspect it is decent. The standard TtW Fire spec has 2 points remainling, mine are in Mana Regen and Flame Throwing rather then both in Student of the Mind.

Tried Fire spec last night and it was great fun once I got the rotation right. Warlocks put me straight on Scorch so dropped it. My dps on Sindy was about 1K less then normal but I will put this down to getting used to my rotation.

On LK I stopped using LB on the horrors because with the ghouls running around I got agro once, will now need to install Omen which is a pain (Arcane never gets threat). During the defile stage I was keeping LB on the boss and then also trying to add to each Valkyire but it was a bit tricky, might get a macro for that.

Question: One thing that annoyed me was twice I saw the dreaded MISS. I understand in my spec the hit cap is 368 and my hit is 375 so I cannot understand why this is happening. Is there a hit debuff during the fight? Or is it just a bug as I can so close to hit cap?

Cannot wait to put Living Bomb on all Vile Spirits!

368 assumes you have imp faerie fire or misery affecting the target. If you were casting before these debuffs were up, which is probable on valks, then you can still miss.

I fail at reading WOWWiki, hit cap is 394 with only Arcane Focus so I am dependant on raid buffs. I blame the shadow priests and Boomkins for not doing their job good enough!

Actually, looking again it's not really clear. Arcane Focus is 3% so should be 368 but the table in WoWWikki implies 394.

    http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit

    Any ideas?

Edit: I'm pretty sure it should be 368 it's just the formating of the table. Still does not explain why i missed
