Funny that - things not fully implemented, etc ... IT's AN ALPHA!!!
Why do people think that Alpha and Beta are the same as a demo? The idea of Alpha is to test out core mechanics and probably network code, not to give you a fully functioning game.
It woudn't surprise me if the dev team are working on a version that is months ahead of the Alpha build. It normally takes a fair while to get a stable build through sign off.
