Exclamation IRC Issues

Surprise, surprise.

But this time it isn't the server that's down, apparently heavenlyplace forgot (or decided not) to renew their DNS records. Fortunately you can still connect to them by using their IP:

72.20.15.246

For third-party IRC clients I'm afraid you're own your own but for the in-game one it's easy to connect. Press F1 to bring up the console and type:
irc 72.20.15.246
Simple as that. Then just type the usual /join #pcgvillage to join the village channel.

Please come soon, Hulkmccracken and I are lonely.

If you are using Chatzilla then you just need to:
/server 72.20.15.246
Hmm, strange.

My Chatzilla managed to log in straight-away despite the fact that I hadn't used it in ages. It also managed to connect to heavenlyplace.net in another tab using the method Jekev posted above...

If you ever need to check the Wurm IRC Server's IP address here's how you would do it..

** I used a command called DIG (available for download - google it) - (It's much better than nslookup)..
** So I ask our (work) DNS server which server our there knows about the isis.heavenlyplace.net server?

** If you don't put an IP address for your dns server (ie. @<your_DNS_Server_IP>), DIG will use the DNS sever entry in your TCP/IP settings.

C:\dig>dig isis.heavenlyplace.net NS

; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> isis.heavenlyplace.net NS
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 355
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;isis.heavenlyplace.net. IN NS

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
heavenlyplace.net. 10800 IN SOA ns1.servtec.co.uk. noc.servtec.co.uk. 2010020600 86400 7200 3600000 86400

** Looks like its ns1.servtec.co.uk that knows about (or is authoratitive for) the heavenlyplace.net domain / zone.

** So I ask this server (ns1.servtec.co.uk) what is the wurm IRC server's IP address?

C:\dig>dig @ns1.servtec.co.uk isis.heavenlyplace.net

; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> @ns1.servtec.co.uk isis.heavenlyplace.net
; (1 server found)
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 463
;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 4, ADDITIONAL: 4

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;isis.heavenlyplace.net. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
isis.heavenlyplace.net. 14400 IN A 72.20.15.246 <<<<<<-- Here's its IP Address...

All of this is though, is dependent on the people looking after the server / DNS entry making sure its IP address is upto date..
