Default Accessing to the Secure Epic Area

Hello all,

Tim Edwards has kindly created a secure forum for discussion of topics relating to the Epic server, this post will give you the details you need to gain access.

Step 1 - Introduce youself.
Since Epic has not yet arrived it has been decided that we will just require a short post in The Grizzly Beer Inn introducing yourself (name, current status, intentions, etc.). This will allow people not interested in playing on Freedom in the mean time to join in the Epic discussion.

When Epic actually arrives anyone who is not a part of the Epic village will be removed (except maybe a few trusted Freedom contacts), and a new policy will be put in place involving meeting up in-game and joining the village.

Step 2 - Put in a join request.
To join the Wurm Online users group you need to first log in to the forum (if you haven't already), then look up to the grey bar near the top of the site and click on User CP. Look for "Group Memberships" on the sidebar and click it. Then you should see a list of the available groups to join, find Wurm Online Villagers and request to join.

And that's it. From then it's up to myself and Jekev to grant you access. See you on the other side.

Sorry for the long delay but we now have a policy on deciding who will be given access to the secure area.

I've updated the original post.

I was thinking of doing a proper write-up thread about what Epic is, but that can only really be done when we have more details, we know very little for certain at the moment.

So in the mean time here's a basic summary. Epic is a new PvP (player vs. player) server being released Soon™ which will be based around "scenarios". We don't know very much about what these will entail, but you can understand the general concept, server-wide goals for the various sides to compete towards. Unlike Wild, which is a very open-ended PvP server. Epic will also have completely separate character skills to Freedom and Wild, when you transfer over you'll start as a blank slate with only your name remaining, if you decide to go back at any point your skills will revert to whatever they were before you moved to Epic. This is the main plus point for a lot of people, getting up to a competitive level on Wild takes months of hard work. Also, since Wurm is still in beta there have been various bugs and exploits available over the years plus major reworks in the skill system which mean that in some cases it's almost impossible to catch up with older players, a clean slate will mean an even playing field, for a while at least.

That's a basic idea of what Epic will be about, you can read more (although it's almost completely speculation) here, and someone else may think of points that I missed and hopefully post something.

Update:

The official release date for the new Epic server cluster has been announced as the 28th October.

For a quick read-up on what it all entails see this blog post and this forum thread. Some of the details are still a bit sketchy, but those should cover most questions.

For information on how to join the secure Epic forum see above, and feel free to join the village's IRC channel if you want to ask any further questions.
