    DONE! Thanks for the help, for some reason I activated my OEM windows just fine, didn't say it was invalid or anything?

    You activated an OEM copy on a 2nd motherboard and it didnt give you any problem? Thats good. Guess it slipped thru the cracks.

    I thought about mentioning checking the SATA connection but figured that was the first thing you wouldve done. HAHA! Oops.

    I know I was happily supprised although I was kind of looking forward to the prospect of maybe upgrading to Windows 8.1 .

    I did check the connections yesterday when it wasn't working. Must have missed it in my confused and frustrated state .

    Nah, dont sweat it. Most of those connections are angled so that theyre hard to see anyway. Ive done it more than a few times, we all have.

    it happens more often than you think as Windows often tracks your entire PC so it can tell if it is still on more or less the same PC. it changed back in XP after certain driver updates would cause the windows install to unverify and fail on the key check.
