Default Silent protagonist or wise cracking hero?

Ok doesnt have to be a Duke Nukem type of loudmouth. But which type of playable character do you prefer, someone who just stares blankly at people or someone who gives their opinion regardless of what you are thinking of the situation.

I actually liked Duke's wisecracks in Duke 3D.

I think overall I prefer silent but variety is good.

tbh I don't really care one way or the other aslong as it isn't done badly.

Yeah I think the only reason I prefer silent is because in the main it's pulled off better.

    Chatty.

Duke Nukem kind'o chatty an all. Something funny but nothing truly over the top but it does depend on the game, after all. I sometimes cant stand it when your main character says nowt. Half Life 2 being the main culprit,

"Gordon, go do this for me"
    "...."
"I'll take that as a yes, now go do it.."
    "...."
    "Well, go on then..!"

It all seems too false to me. If your going to have a game that implies it's plot heavy you at least need your main man to say something otherwise it's not relatable in the slightest and glaringly disjointing as a whole.

I'd like a game that was akin to Peep Show. Your main character giving his own insight into situations as he sees them through a narrative, so to say, but you get a broad spectrum of replies to give.

    That'd be fun.

It really REALLY depends on the game but usually I prefer somebody who actually talks, as long as it's not over the top and the voice acting is good.

I feel more immersed with the silent protagonist, but I also feel like a chore to my own doings.

With a talking protagonist as good as say Mass Effect, I love that, but most games do not have such detail.

A totally mute protagonist is boring as shit and utterly lacking in character.

Depends on the setting of the game. For games that had a lot of humor - Chatty. If the game is trying to convey a serious overtone then - Silent.
