    Mostly older games.

Gothic and Gothic 3, in case I want to jump in and run around for a while.
Test Drive Unlimited, my utitmate cathartic driving game.
    Grid
    Stalker
Baldur's Gate and Alpha Centauri/Civ 2, on my laptop.
My last couple re-installs I've always downloaded Majesty 2 right away. Playing a mission every now and then is still pretty fun, and I haven't even touched 2 of the expansions yet.
Metro 2033. I always seem to playing a runthrough of this game.
I always keep X2 installed on my HD in hopes of restarting a game for real in order to finish the main quest, but I'm not so sure it will happen by now. Still - it's there.

Good point - my "always installed" games do tend to fall into two camps:

1 - Games I love to play, and come back to over and over.
2 - Games I think I'll love, but never get around to starting...

I was thinking of group 1 when I posted this topic, but now I'm curious about group 2 as well...

Mainly games that don't really have an "ending".
    - Civilization 5
    - Total War: Shogun 2
    - Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
    - Battlefield 3
    - The Sims 3

Well I have a 1TB drive just for games so they don't tend to get uninstalled, but for the sake of the thread...

1: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 - best fighting game of all time so it will not get uninstalled, at least until Super Street Fighter IV: Turbo Hyper Fighting Alpha *

2: Left 4 Dead (1 and 2) always a good multiplayer game and needs to be available at a moments notice.

3: The Ultimate Doom: Thy Flesh Consumed - The best version of Doom, never know when I will have a run through that one.

4: Magicka - For the same reasons as Left 4 Dead.

*Name may not be 100% accurate, Street Fighter X Tekken has not made me want to uninstall SSFIV:AA

One of the Elite games (usually all of them are installed though including re-makes)
    Deus Ex
    Silent Hunter III
    Flight Sim X & FS2004
C&C (varies, sometimes the early ones, sometimes the later ones)

At least two Total War games and an Elder Scrolls game.

Have you heard of the EasyTutu mod for Baldur's Gate 1? It basically takes that game and places it into the Baldur's Gate 2 engine. Makes it much prettier and more enjoyable. Huge number of bugfixes too.

Another thing you might be interested in is a mod called Planetfall, which is a brilliant remake of Alpha Centauri for Civ 4.

Oh, I have Planetfall but have never actually played it... but it sounds so good!

Similarly, there was an AMAZING re-make of Ultima V in the original Dungeon Siege engine. It was "The Lazarus Project." I got it running and put a couple hours into it - it's totally on my "someday" list. Anyone here ever check that out? (I think the crowd here is old enough to know what Ultima V is...)

Got to agree with this. BF2142 is very underrated.
