    I am intending on building the PC gamer rig with a few modifications but I will be goign with the i5 2500K as recommended.

    Get a Vertex 3 for SSD. Asrock Z68 Gen3 Extreme3 for mobo if your budget is limited.

    Since we are on the SSD topic I thought I'd jump on that. Been looking at possible OS drives and would like to get one. Presently have an i7 920 and an ASUS P6X58D Premium for a mobo. Suggestions?

    am i being stupid but isn't the dvd pc gamer recommends have an ide connector and the motherboard only has sata :s i ask cause i've bought these parts and am now confused about how i'm meant to connect the dvd.

    Assuming your referring to [url=http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/01/07/new-year-new-rig/]This[/url] build and not the one in the thread: your right. The motherboard doesn't support IDE and the DVD Drive is IDE.

    The MSI motherboard in this thread has 1 IDE below the PCI-E lanes.

    If you have the Gigabyte one:
    I'd recommend buying a new DVD Drive and sending back the one you've recieved. You could easily pick a new one up at a local hardware store if you don't want to wait.

    Cheers, it is the gigabyte one, i was starting to think i was losing it. Didn't really check everything i was buying didn't think i would have to considering pcgamer's advice is normally sound.
    oh well live and learn
