    Default Negativity on vent.

    Hello,

So after a couple days in the guild and after meeting some nice guildmates on vent (Oldgit to be one) i logged into the chat system on Friday night.

All the top players were talking in their own channel (doing top end stuff) and i was left with a set of individuals (wont say any toon names) that quite frankly put down any player of any quality.

It was such a miserable experience that i promptly logged out of vent and Steamwheedle and went back to my main on Ragnaros.

Honestly, these players need to find something else to do if they are finding it such a chore being here.

Its a game and one that i enjoy, but i wont log into vent if its like that. Personally one of the reasons i came to this guild was to socialise and have a chat, it would be pointless for me to continue if all i wanted to do was chat in guild chat and not on vent.

Cmon guys have fun, get over the gripes and enjoy the game for what it is.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. Ventrilo is very hard to moderate, as only a couple of people have admin powers and it is naturally much harder to moderate and police voice chat than guild chat. If you wish to discuss this matter further than you could send me a PM on the forums or an ingame mail to Slashinator.

Whilst we, as a guild, crack down hard on anyone unfairly attacking players who aren't so good, we've tended to be more lenient about individuals unfairly attacking players who play very well, and achieve a lot. This is not on.

PCG is a Guild for ALL players, regardless of skill or commitment levels. We work hard to offer something for everyone, and attacking someone for being a strong player or a hardcore raider is JUST AS BAD as insulting them for being less experienced or skilled.

Many of us, myself included, can sometimes be less than nice to other human beings, and even if it's meant in jest, it may not be taken that way.

As an aside, PCG's Vent is there for everyone, this includes all the channels. Personally, I tend to use Vent when I'm doing something in a group, instead of hopping in by default, simply because I like to listen to music or watch stuff whilst grinding and questing. If you think something's going on that isn't appropriate, ask an Officer to pop in and listen. Also, if you see a group of players in a channel, don't feel like you can't come in and say 'hi'. Unless they're actually in a raid or Arena (always /w one of them to check first), they certainly shouldn't mind.

I understand that you wouldn't want to list names on a public forum, but as Cata says, please /w or send a mail to an Officer with a few more details. If we don't know what's going wrong, we can't do owt to fix it.

Thank you for the compliment Narkrud. It's a real pleasure to help players like yourself, feel at home on vent and comfortable enough to talk even when new.

As to your comment, I think I know who your talking about and I can honestly say, you wouldn't be the first to worry about the tone. Everyone does have a bad day and whilst that isn't really an excuse, it's always best to remember that it's not always going to be the way you experianced on that night.

If you ever feel the need, ask for a private chat and I will be happy to listen or as Cata/Darieth have mentioned, feel free to whisper an officer ingame, who can hopefully help you out.

I hope the experiance hasn't dulled your experiance of PCG. Doom and I enjoyed your company and look forward to speaking with you again.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on our vent channel. As Cata and Darieth have stated if you experience this please let one of the officers know as we can then pop in and listen or have a chat with the people causing issues.

I was not around on Friday night so did not hear anything that was going on. I myself am an officer but do not appear on vent very often. This is because I live with someone who spends most of the time he is not in work sat on Vent chatting to Doom and Olgit and anyone else who happens to join. Through this I often keep an eye on what is being said, without people knowing that an officer is listening in. Not because I am waiting to pounce on people but due to feedback issues, we can't have vent on both PC's at the same time and he makes more use of it than me.

PCG is a social guild and we try our best to keep a guild which welcomes any reader who wants to join us. This extends to keeping vent and guild chat appropriate to all. We certainly do not tolerate attacking other players, either directly or to others in the guild and this is part of the reasons the officers are around, so please feel free to use them!

I hope the experience has not put you off the PCG Guild and hope to see you on vent again soon!

*sigh* This is why I didn't and don't want to be an officer. Whoever is responsible for this please follow the rules of PCG - Don't Be a Dick. We are not here to school you on social etiquette. Nor do our players log on with the intention of putting their training in conflict management into place. As any goblin knows - time is money. Literally. People are paying to play. Don't ruin it for them.

    Thank you.

I hope you do continue to use vent Narkrud, as there are great times to be had on there, we have plenty of really friendly vent regulars, almost all our events utilise it, and you can even drop down into a channel just to listen to Darieth rage at us for standing in fire. Because that's always funny.
