aph that sounds like the problem I was having, it's something to do with a shit version of flash that doesn't work properly, Adobe are supposedly working on it but it you can try rolling back to a older version of flash and see if the problem goes away. (this is why you need the fix I said above for chrome as it is built in but luckily the leave the older version there as a backup so you can just disable the broken version)
failing that go to Adobe get the flash uninstall tool, use it to remove flash then reinstall fresh and it could fix some problems, but this only works with other browsers chrome you have to do it the way I said above.
as for the whole browser choices, they are all valid choices, even the latest versions of IE are starting to trade blows with the other browsers in some areas, but then this is the same as Firefox is generally worse at Java than chrome, but my main reason for taking chrome over the others, is IE was shit so I wanted off it and Firefox loads images like Netscape and I just find it annoying as it makes the page seem to take longer to load. but really in benchmarks chrome and opera are normally top on speed with chrome just winging it, but for day to day use they are all pretty much the same, so just go with the UI you are comfortable with.
