Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer lays down brutal groove

Altair and Ezio rarely miss a beat when it comes to killing. Their martial arts skills have come a long way since Assassin’s Creed 1, when Altair’s deadliest move was to quietly shank his target in the back and calmly wander off as his victim slowly keeled over. Now he’s a whirly-kicky superhero followed around by a fat beat. Spectacular stuff. Assassin’s Creed Revelations is due out on November 15.

Prey 2 screenshots show neon streets, wide heads, many eyes

Prey 2 - all the muzzle flash

Some luminous new Prey 2 shots have arrived, the kind of screenshots you could leave on your screen as a light source at night to cover your place in a neon, cyberpunk glow. Though best not to use the shot of the creepy wide-headed alien. You don’t want those four eyes following you around the room. Check out our Prey 2 preview for more on the game, or head below for more rain-slick city streets.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection trailer sort of explains space-zombie outbreak

They took zombies into space, they put zombies on leashes, they blasted them with experimental weapons, but putting a zombie on a treadmill was one step too far. The new moonbase map that comes as part of the new Black Ops Rezurrection pack looks like it could be the most interesting of the lot. The reduced gravity means dead zombies drift comically into the sky when dispatched, and the whole space suits + machine guns combo is a good one. Reminds me of the underplayed space shooter, Shattered Horizon.

Star Wars: The Old Republic’s accessible raids: rewards for all, no gear grinding required

Bioware have been showing off Star Wars: The Old Republic’s high level Eternity Vault raid at Gamescom this week. We spoke to them recently about their approach to The Old Republic’s endgame. One theme emerged loud and clear: accessibility.

That means high level players won’t need to go grinding for an extra tier of armour to jump into a raid. It means a rewards system that gives loot to every member of a group. It means raid groups won’t be punished should a player need to leave in the middle of a mission, and boss fights will revolve around intuitive visual cues instead of combat logs and ability icons.

A glimpse of rivers in the Minecraft Adventure Update

Minecraft Adventure Update - Rivers

We’re starting to think we should set up some sort of alarm signal so we know when Notch tweets an awesome new Minecraft image, perhaps a Batman style spotlight, but with a silhouette Notch’s top hat instead of a bat.

Anyway, rivers! That’s the subject of the latest picture, which shows a lovely shot of one coiling through some mountains. Here’s the full version “Ok, rivers are working.” tweets Notch. “I’m knee deep in this code now, and I’m getting scared. I think I need coffee.”

Rivers are one of the many, many features that are being gradually added to the Adventure Update. Other additions include the sinister Endermen, an XP system and NPC villages. Hopefully it will also include the dramatic underground ravines that Notch has previously teased. There’s no release date for the Adventure Update just yet.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

The next title in the monolithic Call of Duty series edges ever closer. You can now pre-order Modern Warfare 3 on Steam for £40 / $60. There aren’t any pre-order bonuses listed, and it doesn’t yet say whether you’ll be able to pre-load the game for instant access the very minute that it’s released, but if you intend to pick up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Steam, it’s right there, waiting for you.

In other Call of Duty news, a Call of Duty Elite dev at Gamescom confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated server support. For more CoD, take a look at the latest footage of the Spec Ops survival mode.

Razer launches Battlefield 3 range

Gaming peripherals manufacturer Razer has unveiled a new range of kit branded with logos and artwork from EA’s forthcoming Battlefield 3.

I say new, but the ‘Collector’s Edition Peripherals’ are actually the existing BlackWidow keyboard, Imperator mouse, Onza controller and Scarab mousemat with new paint jobs themed around the shooter. Specs and performance will be the same as the (impressive) kit that’s already out there.

Far Cry 3 - shot in the back

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion can’t sleep tonight, because a maniac has charged a bandit base with an Ak47 and everything is exploding. You’ll find seven super colourful Far Cry 3 Gamescom screenshots below showing a similar assault in-progress. Warning: images contain gruesome corpses and a very orange explosion.

Bioshock Infinite screenshots show sad Elizabeth, Revenge of the Jedi

Bioshock Infinite - Elizabeth

Why is Elizabeth crying? Will we be able to go into that cinema and watch Revenge of the Jedi? These are the two questions raised by the four new Bioshock Infinite screenshots that just dropped in from Gamescom. The answer to the first question is “because she’s being kidnapped by an enormous bird-freak,” we know that from the incredible E3 trailer, the answer to the second question is sadly “probably not,” but we can dream. See the new screens below. Click to make them huge.

World of Warplanes trailer goes dakkadakkadakka neeeaaaooom

Watching this World of Warplanes trailer makes me feel like a kid again, when all I wanted to do was fly a Spitfire (and be an astronaut, and meet dinosaurs). I actually found myself making machine gun noises as I watched it, now everyone in the office is looking at me funny. Here’s hoping World of Warplanes finally fulfils my fantasies of flight goggles, magnificent moustaches and showing Jerry what for.

If you want to know more about World of Warplanes, check out our interview with Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net.

Gabe Newell on disappearing EA Steam games and Origin: “yeah, I’ve tried it”

Owen caught up with Valve CEO Gabe Newell at Gamescom for a chat about Origin, and asked him about the recent withdrawal of a number of EA games from Steam,

Origin is a revamped version of the EA store that can be run from a downloadable client. It’s the only place players will be able to buy the digital version of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and it was recently confirmed that retail copies of Battlefield 3 will require Origin to be installed in order to run. It seems to be positioning itself as a direct competitor to Valve’s Steam service, but what does Gabe Newell think of it?

“I got an account before I came here and was trying it out,” he says. “So yeah, I’ve tried it.”

Saints Row 3 trailer contains luchadors, explosions and a walking apocalypse

Tom Hatfield at 10:30am August 18 2011

Only in Saints Row 3 would a man consider the name ‘Killbane’ not ostentatious enough and instead dub himself ‘The Walking Apocalypse’. Of course when this man is a Mexican wrestler by day and a violent gang leader by night it all begins to make sense. The trailer above outlines your missions against Killbane’s gang, topping it off with your character facing him in the ring to fight him for his luchador honour. There’s also a lot of explosions along the way, because Saints Row is like that.

We also get a brief look at Angel de la Muerte, a rival Luchador who sides with your gang and is voiced by Hulk Hogan. You’ll get to join him in the ring on the 15th of November in North America and the 18th in Europe.
