A new trailer for the third Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack, Annihilation has landed, and this one shows off the new Zombie map, set in jungle paradise Shangri-La. There’s a lot of zombies, a surprising amount of monkeys and ridiculous amount of explosive chaos.

The pack, which will cost the same high price as previous Call of Duty maps, will also add four other new multiplayer maps, called Hanger 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard.

Annihilation comes out on Xbox tomorrow. Activision have said that the PC version will follow ‘shortly afterwards’.

A sliver of light has been shed on Battlefield 3′s co-op mode in the latest issue of PSM3. The mode will support two players side by side, will span ten missions and will be a standalone section, separate from the single player game. Apart from that, DICE are keeping a tight lid on things. Hopefully they’ll will show more as we get closer to the October 25 release date.

It’ll be going head to head with Modern Warfare 3′s Spec Ops mode, which offers its own series of co-op missions for four players at a time. The Modern Warfare 3 spec ops mode was recently demonstrated live on US television, while Battlefield 3 got plenty of screen time over the course of E3, with footage of a single player mission set in a tank, and action from the Operation Metro multiplayer map.

After almost two months of cyber-attacks on dozens of targets, hacker collective Lulzsec declare that they have disbanded. The group have claimed responsibility for the data theft and denial of service attacks on a number of gaming websites, including Minecraft, Eve Online, Codemasters, Bethesda, Sony and Nintendo, and even claim to have targeted government sites like Senate.gov.

In a final statement, Lulzsec declared that the 50th day marked the end of their attacks, and leaked a final salvo of illegally obtained information, including details of hundreds of thousands of Battlefield Heroes accounts.

Proun released, pay what you want

Proun, an abstract indie racing game which sees you looping around a cable in order to avoid upcoming objects, has just been released for the princely sum of £whateveryouwant. Although people who actually pay will get a free bonus track. There’s a new launch trailer above to show off the game’s splendid art style, or you can check out the old one..

Proun was made by one man, Joost van Dongen (although he got someone else to do the soundtrack) who has worked on it for six years, he’s written about the history of making the game on his blog.

You can download Proun from the official website here although it seems to be down right now, which we can only hope is an indicator of Joost’s success.

UPDATE: Joost has put up a second site after the amount of traffic took down the first one. Thanks to phatbadger for the tip off.

The Old Republic Imperial Agent Sniper

The latest Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer shows a mission to depose a mad king on Alderaan. There are two major indications that the monarch’s lost his marbles. A member of his own family has enlisted the group’s help to take him off the throne, and he’s wearing a very, very silly hat. To defeat him the four player team must launch a strategically foolish but awesome full frontal assault on his castle. For more footage of the game in-action, check out the Tatooine mission video, and find out more about The Old Republic’s classes in our accounts of 17 hours spent with the Agent and the Bounty Hunter. You’ll find the Alderaan trailer below.

Team Fortress 2 free - thumbnail

A quiet week for free PC games – pretty much all I could find was something called an ArmA 2 and some sort of war-themed hat simulator. Team Fortress 2 mean anything to you? Apparently that’s free now. Luckily, the lineup is bolstered by some gorgeous indie gems.

Yesterday we talked about how to get weapons and hats, and on Friday we took you through which classes to start with and how all the modes work. Today we’ll go through the basics of all the nine classes, and how to find out more about their weirder variations.

Rift’s recent 1.3 update started the Waves of Madness, a multi-phase live event that will conclude with the opening of the Hammerknell raid instance in a couple weeks. The patch brought new companion pets and Item Sets, among other cosmetic and balance changes. But before the doors to the forsaken dwarven city open up, there’s going to be several weeks of exclusive, limited-time content for you to play and earn unique rewards from. But once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. Luckily, we have you covered–we’re putting together guides over the next few weeks to help you get the most out of each Phase’s content while it’s hear for the conquering.

Police Quest

Every week, Richard Cobbett rolls the dice to bring you an obscure slice of gaming history, from lost gems to weapons grade atrocities. This week, we pick up the shield, reach for a nightstick, and prepare to retread some very, very mean streets with the Lytton PD’s top Sierra suicide squad .

LA Noire is coming soon to the PC. But crime? Crime has always been with us. Laura Bow’s notebook saw her through two major cases back in the 1920s. Discworld Noir was funny, clever, and a brilliant spin on Terry Pratchett’s most famous creation. On the indie side, The Blackwell Legacy games are doing a great job of telling mysterious ghost stories. During the FMV era, it turned out The Dame Was Loaded, and then of course, there was a game simply known as ‘Noir’ – and a personal favourite of mine, the (later, not sucky) Tex Murphy games, which took those classical stylings into the Future. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? We do. We’ve painstakingly dug it out a million times.

But few of those cases are stranger, quirkier, or just plain messed up as gaming’s original interactive police procedural adventure. Prepare for the insanity that awaits… In Pursuit of the Death Angel.

Eve Online players protest against monocle prices/microtransactions. Lasers involved.

Tim Edwards at 02:43am June 25 2011

The Incarna update for Eve-Online is not going especially well for the game’s developers, CCP. First, there’s the $70 monocle that players can buy and equip to their new avatars. Then there’s the threat of pay-to-win items entering the game system via microtransactions. A significant proportion of Eve’s playerbase are upset. Significant enough to organise a vast in-game protest at Jita, Eve’s trade-hub. The video above comes from that protest, with around a 1000 pilots firing upon the trade-station. This isn’t the only protest ongoing; similar protests have taken place across Tranquility this evening.

To be fair, there are also anti-protest protests taking place. And they’ve got lasers, too. Because that’s the kind of game Eve is. More, including CCP’s response, below.

We thought it’d be useful for us to tell you what you need to know to start having fun. But we thought that at 5pm on a Friday, so we’ve only got the very basics ready so far. We’ll add to this over the weekend, but here’s how the game modes work, and which classes you should play first.

Update: part two is now up, covering how you get new items.
