Last night Infinity Ward released the first proper video of Modern Warfare 3. The worldwide conflict will be sending us to the US, Germany and Three-ngland, I mean, 3ngland. Damnit. ENGLAND. This is our first look at the upgraded engine after the first rush of teaser trailers, and there’s no denying it looks good, but is it as fancy as the Battlefield 3 footage?

How To: Survive another day in the League of Legends arena

If you frequent this site, then you’ve probably heard of Riot Games’ free-to-play MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena), League of Legends. You’ve probably also heard that it involves copious amounts of ganking, killing sprees, and people rage-typing in all caps. Maybe you even gave it a try, only to be discouraged by other players hating on you for being unfamiliar with every tiny facet of the game.

It can be a harsh community at times, but to be fair, one weak player on a team can make your chances of victory spiral downward in a hurry. Once you understand LoL, though, you’ll see why so many people are playing it: its addictive combat is some of the best around. I’ve put myself through the online grinder so that you don’t have to, and put together a dozen tips that will let you step into the arena with confidence and march onward to victory.

And in other PC gaming news…

Prey 2 City Concept

It really seems as though Human Head have made a brand new game, and then decided to stick a “Prey 2″ name on it. If you read Graham’s Prey 2 preview, you’ll find it bears almost no connection to the first game. Luckily, this brand new game masquerading as a sequel sounds pretty damn interesting in its own right.

We hope to go killing with Killian at this year’s E3, which is approaching fast. We’ll hopefully get a closer look at Torchlight 2 at this year’s conference, too. It looks as though Runic are determined to expand the game in every direction.

It’s time for today’s dose of daily PC gaming news, including more on the new Carmageddon game, Alpha Protocol 2 news and a new rumoured Arkham City villian. Before all that, it’s time for a Monday Minecraft rave!

Dead Island - charging straightjacket zombie

Gametrailers have eleven whole minutes of Dead Island footage showing the game’s exciting open world island and remarkable levels of gore. The footage is interesting in a very different way to Dead Island’s other recent trailers. Those vidoes dwelled on the tragedy of a paradise gone bad. If this video dwells on anything, it’s decapitation, and good knife-throwing technique. See for yourself below.

Team Fortress 2 Replay

The Replay Update for Team Fortress 2 recently gave players the ability to record and edit footage of their finest TF2 moments into short films. To celebrate the best community videos, Valve also launched the annual Saxxy Awards, which would judge the best submissions across 20 categories, including Most Inventive Kill, Funniest Replay, Best Midair Murder and Most Epic Fail.

There were over ten thousand entries. To help with the mammoth judging task, Valve have thrown the decision making open to the general public. That’s you. To make your voice heard, head over to the new Saxxy Award voting page. It will present you with two videos at a time. All you have to do is vote on which one you think is the best, and move on to the next choice.

The selections are naturally a bit hit and miss, but there are a few comedy examples in there. We’ve collected a few of the best films we’ve come across so far below. If you find some good ones, post them in the comments and we’ll try to include them in the main post. Happy voting!

Dungeon Siege 3 demo arriving in June

Dungeon Siege 3 - woah now with the lens flare

If you’re itching for a fresh action RPG ahead of the upcoming Diablo 3 beta, then a Dungeon Siege 3 demo might be just the ticket. A Square Enix newsletter uncovered by Strategy Informer revealed a June 7 release date for the trial, ten days before the game’s full release. There’s no news on what the demo will contain, but hopefully it’ll give us a chance to try out the four player co-op.

Dungeon Siege’s central strategic conceit has players changing stances to access different skills, but the game is very flexible with its definition of a “stance.” Close combat warrior Lucas shifts his footing and raises his sword to access his alternative move set, while female mage Anjali turns blue and naked, and catches fire. It’s never the men who turn blue and naked, is it?

For more of an idea of what to expect, get to grips with our Dungeon Siege 3 hands on, or check out the official Dungeon Siege 3 site.

The Sunday Video Pwn

It’s been a few days at least since we showed Minecraft any love, so this week’s headlining video is from our favourite excavating game. Here, with some mod trickery, you can see just what Minecraft would look like if played after ingesting Lysergic acid diethylamide. It’s a nauseating experience, so view on a clean stomach and do not attempt to eat or drink during the viewing experience. I genuinely have no idea why on earth you’d want to play with this mod on, but it certainly makes Minecraft’s world look even more mind-bending than it does at current. Looking at the sculptures on the PC Gamer Minecraft server genuinly fills me with awe; it’s incredible to see what some of you guys have crafted. It does make me wonder though, if players were armed with THIS, what kind of elements they could mine and build stuff with.

Preview: Supreme Ruler: Cold War

If you’ve ever wanted to know if there was a distinction between simulation and game, Supreme Ruler is the perfect example. This hugely in-depth game lets you play through the Cold War (for our younger readers, that was the 50 years following 1949 of angry nonsense between two totalitarian ideologies equally malevolent towards the individual’s happiness) from the viewpoint of any country in the world. Even Andorra.

The key trait of Supreme Ruler is illustrated by the fact that it’s in-depth enough to let you build individual factories in individual towns, including Croydon, a large town near London. It’s immediately apparent that there is no way any individual human mind can hope to gather all the information necessary to make the perfect decision in this situation. That’s fair – Civ has that limitation too.

Saturday Crapshoot: Wiedźmin (The Witcher)

The Witcher

Every week, Richard Cobbett rolls the dice to bring you an obscure slice of gaming history, from lost gems to weapons grade atrocities. Today, we cap off the week of The Witcher 2 with one last quick trip over to its homeland. And no, we’re not talking about Temeria.

To most people in the UK and US, The Witcher is simply a cool RPG, based on some books and short stories they’ve never actually read. In its native Poland, things are… rather different. The series’ creator, Andrzej Sapkowski, is one of the best known fantasy authors, with the stories winning prizes and popularity since 1986. The first anthology, The Last Wish, came out in English around the same time as the game, with Blood of Elves also now out. If you haven’t read them, they’re worth checking out, and available in both traditional dead tree form and on the mighty Amazon Kindle.

And then there’s the all-important movie, which tried to give the series the full Lord of the Rings treatment. With all this great material to work with, can you imagine how good that must be?

Two Worlds 2 Collector’s Edition Giveaway x2 (US Only)

Two Worlds II PC Gamer disc screenshot

UPDATE: The winners have been picked. Congratulations to Bsik and VA1N. Thanks to all who entered.

You know, we aren’t so different, you and I. When I have got a killstreak going, the last thing I want to do is get up to throw away my junk food trash–and I know you’re the same way. So, over time, our desks get cluttered with computer parts, Mountain Dew cans, and Slim Jim wrappers. But when we clean them off, we discover treasures that would make the great pirates of yesteryear drool (and probably scratch their sweet pirate beards in confusion since they don’t understand technology). Today is no exception. After removing stacks of papers we found two very rare Royal Editions of Two Worlds 2. And like true PC gaming saints, we’re giving them away to you.
