The Old Republic’s Sentinel and Guardian revealed
Isn’t being a Jedi boring? I mean, sure, you’ve got a laser sword, you can see into the future, your reactions and decision-making processes are heightened by exposure to an all powerful psychic force that grants you telekinesis and advanced healing, but man, don’t you just wish you either had a load of armour, or two laser swords? If only Bioware would announce exactly those two specialisations for the Jedi class in their upcoming MMO RPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Oh wait, what’s this?
Lord of the Rings: War in the North trailer
When it comes to Tolkien, there are two types of people. There are people who saw the films, maybe read one or two of his books, and thought “Well, that was a ripping fantasy-type yarn.” Then there are people who care. They care that Gandalf and Sauron were both Maiar, ancient and immortal beings of great power; that Orcs used to be Elves, horribly tortured by Melkor in an age before the sun was created. That stuff is part of the fun for them, just like there are WoW veterans who know and care about who Neltharion is.
Watch this ripping fantasy-type Lord of the Rings: War in the North trailer, and feel sorry for those people.
Blizzard sue World of Warcraft private hosts for $88m
Scapegaming, a private World of Warcraft server company that wrote its own software to host a private version of the world’s biggest MMO, has been ordered to cough up $88,594,539 and hand it over to Blizzard. Whoops.
Worms Reloaded trailer
Worms. Whenever Team 17 step up to the stage with their newest material, “Worms!” is what we chant at them. This time, their newest material is Worms. Worms Reloaded will have the classics, of course – the Ninja Rope, the Sheep, the Holy Hand Grenade – but this new trailer shows that it’ll also have magnets and resurrection. Those are our two most favourite things at PC Gamer. Trailer is below:

The Curse of the Chocolate Fountain
“Theme: You can’t stop pooping.” Is there any greater theme? Bird-dodgin’, super-poopin’ indie game Icarus Proudbottom in: The Curse of the Chocolate Fountain suggests not.
Infectonator lets you create your own zombie apocalypse
The zombie apologist is a lonely figure. While everyone else is smacking the undead with hammers or setting them ablaze with righteous fire, he’s in his lab, working out how to bring more of the dead to unlife. In Infectonator, he’s you.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 announced, will be multiplatform
The folks at GSC Game World sure picked an interesting time to tell the world that they’re making S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (lengthy, Castlevania-like subtitle yet to come)–it’s 5:30 p.m. here in South San Francisco, and we were just about to hop out the door for a weekend of StarCraft 2 and booze. Maybe they wanted to beat publishers that are announcing titles at GamesCom next week in Germany to the punch–the convention’s going to be packed with major announcements.
Within: a stock quote from a CEO, confirmation of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s sales, and a release window.

Confirmed: Space Marine will use Steamworks
Earlier in the week Shacknews sighted a popup in a demo of the PC version of Relic’s upcoming Space Marine action game that led them to speculate the game would use the much-despised Games for Windows Live service. Previously, Relic has used GFWL in its Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II games.
Much to our delight, THQ contacted us to refute that claim. Global Communications Manager Simon Watts officially confirms that Space Marine will use Steamworks, not Games for Windows Live, for its DRM and multiplayer matchmaking.
First Deus Ex: Human Revolution in-game trailer
This is the brand new trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I’d forgotten how my excitement gland reacted to invisible secret agents with gun hands and bionic sunglasses. Go-go-gadget murderblades!
Plants vs Zombies update added a secret surprise
If you have Plants vs Zombies on Steam, you might have noticed it was recently ‘upgraded’ to the Game of the Year edition. It stores your savegames online, lets you create custom zombies to put into the game, and adds a new achievements screen that has a little secret. Here’s a video.
F3AR trailer shows off new powers
The new F3AR trailer still isn’t showing any actual footage of a game engine, but it’s at least alluding to some of the powers you’ll have. You can play as Paxton Fettel and possess people, or you can play as Point Man and grimace at people. They’ve ditched the full-motion-people-men they had last time and have went for a sort of evil cartoon CGI look.
Relic: Steam “could save PC gaming from piracy”
Steam will save PC gaming, according to Relic Entertainment’s Andy Lang. Speaking to PC Gamer at the launch of the PC version of their forthcoming shooter Space Marine, Andy explained that Valve’s digital distribution service has provided a haven for publishers who are afraid of the piracy on our platform.
Boss battles not likely in Bioshock Infinite
Ken Levine felt the boss battle at the end of Bioshock was a failure. He told Craig Pearson, our News Editor, that by the time he noticed that the final clash in Bioshock sucked, it was too late to change it. Here’s the transcript of what he said:
