You heard. Two Engies standing on top of their goals, firing rockets to move the ball around and hopefully score. Don’t believe me? Have a video.

Adrian Shepherd, the protagonist of Half-Life’s expansion Opposing Force, has sort of vanished from the HL universe, hasn’t he? Beyond Black Mesa is a short film project that looks to bring him back from the mysterious G-Man protagonist deposit box and thrust him into the role of a resistance fighter in City 17. Look!

Poor Charles Barkley. Voted the NBA’s most valuable player in 1991, the man dubbed the “Round Mound of Rebound” (I’m not lying) is now trapped in a horrible dystopian future: the post-cyberpocalypse of 2053, where basketball is strictly forbidden and evil agent Michael Jordan is on hand to shoot anyone who even attempts a bounce-pass.

Seconds after I agreed to replay No One Lives Forever for this article, I was wracked with doubts. Would it be as rib-tickling as I remembered it or as wonderfully diverse? Would it still seem as imaginative?

eReaders put game manuals back in our hands

Dan Stapleton at 07:02pm July 9 2010

The loudest complaint I hear from fellow gamers reluctant to buy games from an online store like Steam, Direct 2 Drive or Impulse is the lack of a physical manual to flip through. Making matters worse for these guys, even some boxed copies no longer come with a paper manual. Me? I’ve never been a manual guy. In most cases, I’m of the opinion that games shouldn’t be tests that I have to study for ahead of time—when I get a new one, I want to jump in and start having fun as I learn to play by exploding mutant heads with laser beams.

However, even I admit that every so often a manual is necessary. In those rare cases, the a PDF manual will do the job, but it has its drawbacks. But like most of life’s problems, many of these issues can be solved with gadgetry.

Blizzard have just revealed that they will no longer be requiring real names to be used on the Battle.net forums. In a message to users from Mike Morhaime, Blizzard’s CEO and co-founder, the company has said that it has been listening to the feedback from forum users and has “decided that at this time real names will not be required for posting on the official Blizzard forums.” Instead, once the new forums launch, players will be identified by their Starcraft II username and character code. The full posting is below.

The war for control of 3D gaming on the web is about to get veery interesting. That’s because Adobe are working on 3D support for Flash – the ubiquitous web plugin. Objects will fly out of your screen and blow up your FACE and EVERYTHING!  That means there are now at least three competing 3D web APIs – HTML 5, Flash, and the excellent Unity. So excellent, in fact, that it’s been a bit of a one horse race. Read on for three excellent browser games in all three of the dees.

Big Match Striker is a new online football game, and it’s a really interesting idea. Think of it as Theme Hospital crossed with Football Manager, then crossed again with a pub trivia game – all hosted online. The guys who are making it at Supermassive need help testing it, and they’ve opened up their first beta to PC Gamer readers.

Cataclysm sprung a leak: dynamite fishing

For a little while, it was possible to throw EZ-Thro Dynamite into pools in World of Warcraft and watch a bunch of debris float up, which you could then loot. It was removed shortly afterwards, but that doesn’t sound like a bug. That’s a bit of code that shouldn’t be running – a feature that was implemented too early. Dynamite fishing in Cataclysm, eh?

The Engineer update went live last night, and the most powerful item it adds is the Wrangler. It makes your Sentry twice as powerful, three times as tough, gives it infinite range, and lets you tell it where to shoot. Unfortunately, though, it requires 17 achievements to unlock, and there are only about 10 easy ones. Luckily, there’s a shortcut to get this electro-bastard in just an hour of play. Here’s what you need:
