wow has 2 issues, the high monthly price, just stopped mine, don't play it enough. second if you are a new player you have to buy all the exp boxes to get a "full" version. I would welcome a play as you pay model. lets say 50 cents every day you login.

All World of Warcraft has to do is lower their fee from $15.00 dollars to $5.00 dollars and World of Warcraft will bring a lot of new and old players back to the game. It will keep the game far and people will enjoy it to because of the lower price of $5.00 dollars I will meant it if Blizzard does this I would play World of Warcraft because of the new price of $5.00 dollars. Blizzard could do both free to play and a fee just by setting up a new sever allowing that of free to play player on their own severs and the fee payers on their own severs problem solved.

If you really think that those "cool" guys got all these equips with their own sweat, then you are an innocent person. Please study the gold selling system that exists in every MMORPG before making such a stupid comment about excluding from the game those who do not work.

Hmmm. It seems like a good idea to me.

I'd be more inclined to play it if it was free. The fee is too steep for a game I don't think I'd play enough for it to be worth it.

I know this is an old thread, but one system they might implement, is a free game, but with certain limitations. Say free play cannot do heroics and raids or is limited to ilvl 200 gear. AD&D online and Lord of the Rings did a similar thing

I think tuning WoW to a F2P is a terrible idea. I would get really annoyed when I had to get MY credit card out every-now-and-then because I wanted an upgrade. Right now, My monthly payment (that is dirt cheep) allows me to get anything the game has to offer. If you cant afford $14.95 a month, you should not be playing. Finish school, then start playing when you have a job.

The ones complaining about having to pay monthly will definitely be complaining when the figure out they are spending more per month because all they need to do is buy (for real) their way to the top. Right now a lvl 80 with all 251+ gear is cool. It shows dedication and skill. Something that would be missing from a F2P model. Just my opinion.

The problem with WoW going free to play would be if they offer item purchases for gear. I would much rather pay the fee and have a fair gameplay where I don't have to buy gear to compete in PvP for example. I mean that is really a majority of the game is obtaining endgame gear, and if you can just buy it for X amount of dollars, it takes a lot of the fun away, and you're sitting there scratching your head wondering what to do. I think Blizz would lose a lot of players to that. But I am all up for making the subscription fee less, say $5usd????

Bah, this will all be moot the second Guild Wars 2 comes out. Interesting to see how Anet is the only one (that I know of) willing to implement the "buy once and play free forever" model.

"Lord of the Rings Online, Company of Heroes and Dungeons and Dragons Online."
How does Company of Heroes fit in there? That is an RTS with no subscription model at all. If he used the apprehension "CoH" then he probably meant the MMO "City of Heroes".

wow will be p2p for a long time in the future but when the day come like when blizzard eventually comes out with that "new" mmo that they mentioned a while ago that will still have a hard time beating its older brother so there is little thought if any of f2p for wow. plus if it goes that route they will be charging for anything after lvl 60 and probably like a dollar per dungeon like ddo does or maybe just pay per character slot like ff11 does

Played a bit of D&D online, but couldn't really get into the generic fantasy world, plus I'm a complete MMO noob, gonna hold out for free Lord Of The Rings Online later this year and see if I can get into that. Finding the time is the hardest part.

not being a big MMO player, my only thought is that WOW could do basilcy anything they want and still maintain its high profits. tho in my mind the subscription shows that the mmo is going to be updated and supported WELL as ALL users are paying for it. whereas with free to play is only supported by those who DO buy the extra content.

then theres the argument on people who pay being more powerful then ppl who dont

Maybe they're finding that subs numbers are dropping, or that twice as many people would play - and potentially buy items - if it was free. I remember reading Runewaker talking about a given person's average microtransaction total being anywhere from £5 to £2000 a month. Some people are nuts.

Make it free and give up all that money they get from monthly subs. I can see then talk about it but I can't see it happening unless the free version was crippled.

I would love this. With so many MMOs around it's tough to make a monthly financial commitment. Especially when you consider I rarely will play one for a full month. I might play for a few days or week, and then not touch it for a month or two. I've found the continual grind just doesn't hold my interest like it used to and I quickly get bored.

Not sure. I'd prefer to pay a sub fee, than end up paying more through microtransactions to see the same stuff.

If They did this, would free up some money for me to buy other games over the course of the year. Hope they go along with this! :)

I would love to see this happen. I hate to see games that I have purchased gather dust because I can't afford the demand of a monthly subscription.

I would bet the MMO standard becomes free to play with microtransactions within the next 2-3 years. It would be lovely if The Old Republic launched as that.
