Apple is also doing an appstore in Mac OS 10.7.
Linux, however has had it for years, even before the iPhone!

mmmm... Not really.... MS interested in anything means monopoly (look at the OS battle which does not exist for example). They haven't added Steam as a Game Provider in the Windows 7 Game Group. That is all crap. The farther they are the better all things work out for everybody.

Imho, let em' at it. The more the merrier. More competition means better services, better games in my library and hopefully cost me a lot less.

Microsoft can give it up, Valve won when they weren't watching or caring and quite frankly I'd much rather be at Valve's every whim than Micro$oft's, I don't trust them, I don't want them to be involved in PC gaming from any more than a publisher level and w/e their plans are I hope they fail miserably.

This looks like another EU competition case in the making, if Microsoft isn't careful and decides not to play nice with the other game services, such as Steam.

For all the bitter comments I am sure to see about this from hardcore PC gamers it is certainly a wise decision... integrate a casual gaming marketplace right into windows. It will make casual gamers like my girlfriend bubble over with glee.

For me it is just more games as a service bullcrap, served up with casual games I have no interest in.

I agree on what you said. Microsoft comes crawling back to the platform that made them who they are today. Well we don't want them anymore. We got Linux now which hopefully will be integrated into mainstream operating systems soon enough and we got Steam which will always be better than Games For Windows Live. Microsoft can't come crawling back because they stopped supporting PCs before. Once you stop, you lose everyone's trust. Good riddance to you Microsoft.

The problem (luckily for them not us :D) is that on those slides there's nothing about serious PC gaming, they consider mainly 3 form factors - slates/notebooks/all-in-ones and say that only third one is capable of CASUAL gaming and store is filled with poker games. So if there is no love from MS for true PC gaming, devs will either dump pcs for xbox or move to different platform or they will produce pc games which will look poorer (application quality/environment awareness, not graphics) than they look already after vista/7 launch and xbox expansion. Let's hope for the platform switching and welcoming Ubuntu :D
