Beyond Native Resolutions

This is a little off topic:
I'm currently gaming at 1680x1050 (16:10) on a 22" Samsung 226BW.
I wanted to go to a 24" 1920x1200 (16:10) but $500 is just too much.

There are a lot of new 24" 1920x1080 (16x9).

Will this be a true upgrade, ignoring the size difference?
Are games showing up funny/different on 16:9 ratio monitors? Stretched or squished?
Is this going to be the new standard? Will I see this supported resolution in most games?

105f is only about 40c, not really hot at all for a CPU. Have a look here:

http://www.heatsink-guide.com/maxtemp.shtml

If you start getting up to about 70c, you can start getting worried a little, but otherwise, you're just fine for the most part. :)

I just started playing Crysis for the first time ever and have noticed my PC temp jump quite a bit higher than it's ever run at before. I'm wondering what a good goal to shoot for is temp wise? The thermostat runs up to about 105 degrees Fahrenheit - am I too hot, or still within the "safe zone"? What's the "danger zone"? (/queue Top Gun soundtrack... now)

Thanks!

Here's an interesting one for you:

I use a wireless for my gaming machine, because it's unfeasible to get a wired connection, mainly because this isn't my house and thus my PC (Which is in my room) is nowhere near the router. Recently I've been getting dropped from the internet, but still being connected to the router. I can still access the router and edit the settings if I need to, but any internet browsing gets me disconnected.

That would be annoying if it was just that. Except that I only get dropped if I open up the internet. Steam chat works fine, Thunderbird works fine, and the last time I this happened (It fixed itself somehow...) I could browse using the in game Steam browser.

Any suggestions?

A good article, and gives me a few more ideas for how to go about cooling the new rig I'm trying to save up for and build now.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with a budget of about £400, but I've managed to pick up a few bargains on ebay and in fact just purchased a Coolermaster Elite 330 for the bargain price of £25 (but I think they have limited stock at that price), which makes me a very happy chappy. :)

@Crasp

You're right - what I was trying to say is that the Coolermaster Elite 330 which we use for the Gamer Rig fit the bill perfectly, but there are silent options that would fit that space. As you rightly point out, those two would mean shifting the PSU though.

The Xigamark Asgard would also fit the bill - I've not tried one personally, but heard good things about it as a budget case.

H2o asked specifically for cases with the PSU at the top, but both the Antec 300 and the Lian-Li case house the PSU at the bottom. Not sure how much help that answer was.

I've always just bought large cases with a few fans and then run on stock cooling... never had an issue. That said I never overclock anything either.

Good shout on the Freezer 7. I always advise people to upgrade from the stock heatsink and that is one of the best around that price point.

Just thought I'd add a few other things for those trying to keep temperatures down in the hot summer months.

Firstly, you might want to consider investing in some better thermal paste for your CPU. My personal recommendation is Arctic Silver 5. I've been using it for years and have had great results. Bear in mind that if you do get third-party thermal paste, always follow their directions of use as some have particular ways of being applied for best results.

Secondly, if you're adding additional fans to your case make sure they are oriented the correct way round. Generally speaking you will want the airflow in your case to be linear. Most cases have air coming in the front and out the back, so you will want any additions to bear that in mind. Speaking of airflow, try to keep cables tidy within your case. Get some cables ties and wrap up any excess cable and tuck it out of the way if you have the room.

Finally, keep your PC clean. Not only will this help keep temperatures down but it will increase the lifespan of your kit. Personally I clean out my PC once a month with some canned air.
